Where have ducklings gone?

When I came to Woy Woy about seven years ago, it was not unusual to see a mother duck and a number of ducklings in the main street or sometimes in the garden in front of the police station.

I surmised that pelicans may be eating them and reference to Google confirmed that was most probably so.

Are there any other explanations?
