Brigade urges residents to prepare for summer

The Killcare Wagstaffe Rural Fire Brigade is urging local residents to get fire ready before summer, after a spate of bushfires on the Bouddi Peninsula in August and September.

"Brigades from all over the Central Coast have been here to help put out the fires we experienced and this should serve as a reminder to all residents to get a bushfire survival plan in order," said Killcare Wagstaffe Rural Fire Brigade captain Ms Michelle Biddulph.

"Is your home properly prepared?

"Do you have a bushfire survival plan?

"Do all your family know what to do and have you considered what to do with your pets?

"These are the questions you need to ask yourself," Ms Biddulph said.

"As many people saw during the August Pretty Beach bushfire, we didn't have fire trucks at every house.

"There is certainly plenty more bush in our area which can still burn in the future.

"Are houses and properties near this bush prepared?

"Fires don't wait until you are ready.

"Preparing for a bush fire is easier than you think.

"It's your responsibility to prepare yourself, your home and your property.

"There are four simple steps to get ready for a bushfire: discuss what to do if a bushfire threatens your home, prepare your home and get it ready for bush fire season, know the bush fire alert levels and keep all the bush fire information numbers, websites and the smart phone app," Captain Biddulph said.
