TV cameras failed to identify vandals
Closed circuit TV cameras installed at Umina Oval have not been able to help identify vandals who smashed public toilets and defaced buildings.
Proprietor of the Jasmine Greens Kiosk at Umina, Ms Gabby Greyem, said on the afternoon of Friday, June 1, two primary school children informed her that four teenagers had smashed the public toilets at the back of the kiosk.
"They used their scooters to do the smashing and then rode around with the toilet seats on their scooters," Ms Greyem said.
"Police were unable to obtain footage from the CCTV camera outside the public toilets," she said.
Ms Greyem said on the night of Monday, June 11, the kiosk and other parts of the adjoining children's playground had been covered in graffiti tags.
Brisbane Water Police Senior Constable Melanie Lambert said "the camera was not working at that time for some reason".
She said another camera covered the entrance to the cafe but did not capture the images of the offenders.
"We will keep the area as part of our regular patrols as much as possible," Senior Constable Lambert said.
