Paying politicians for your vote
The latest proposal by Julia Gillard and the Labor Party (apparently supported by the Liberals) that the major parties receive a dollar for every vote they receive in the next Federal election means we, the voters, will be charged a dollar to vote for the politician of our choice.
Not content with bleeding the country dry and squandering our money, the politicians now want us to pay a dollar each for the privilege of voting for them.
While I have always had a sneaking suspicion that the people in Canberra think we, the Australian public, are not too bright, I never thought they would treat us with such contempt as to consider that we would willingly pay a dollar to vote for them.
If this awful proposition is agreed to in Canberra I predict the informal vote will increase significantly.
Upon reflection, perhaps that is Julia's ploy: better no one receive a vote than your opposition gain one.
