Council supports Umina rescue boat contest
Gosford Council has resolved to provide in kind contributions to Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club as host of this year's Australian Inflatable Rescue Boat Championships.
The Championships, which will be held from Friday, July 20, until Sunday, July 22, are expected to attract up to 2000 competitors, officials and spectators.
Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club requested a $5000 cash donation and non-financial contributions from Council to assist them to manage the Championships.
The non-financial contributions from Council are anticipated to include 10 temporary port-a-loos or similar facilities to supplement existing toilet facilities, two skip bins to hold water to enable motors to be washed out, a large skip bin for rubbish collection, six all-terrain vehicles, one flat top utility with tow bar, one tractor with driver at times as required, three additional water points at positions to be decided, security fencing around the site as required, barricades, directional signs, cones, star pickets and variable message boards as required, daily waste removal service with 10 additional waste bins, regular clean and restocking of public toilets, beach raking each morning, if required and a regrade of the existing access track at the southern end of car park to enable it to be used by ATVs.
It is anticipated that the in-kind support requested from Council for Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club to host the Australian IRB Championships would be approximately $10,000.
In further discussions with Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club, club representatives from the organising committee advised Council officers that if Council could supply the in-kind items, the cash contribution would not be required.
