Capture carbon
There are some 120 million cattle, horses and sheep in Australia contributing 17 per cent of the country's total greenhouse gas emission.
In parts of North America and Europe, plants have been established to utilize this gas by converting the animal waste, or manure, into methane gas which is then burned and converted into electricity.
Academics recognised this problem years ago, and warned the Australian Government that something should be done to utilise this commercially viable product.
Nothing was done about it, other than to form a committee which subsequently disbanded after three years of meetings and trips to Bermuda, the Bahamas and Las Vegas, without forming a strategic plan.
