Killcare surf club almost finished

The reconstruction of Killcare Surf Club is expected to be completed in early April, according to Gosford Mayor Cr Chris Holstein.

The reconstruction work includes new and improved craft storage, ground-floor kiosk, first aid room, meeting rooms, club member's toilets and showers, bar and kitchen facility and large function area.

The facility has also been made more accessible with the inclusion of a lift.

Cr Holstein said the additions to the surf club would prove to be a great benefit to the surrounding community.

"Although thousands of lives have been rescued by our surf life savers and council's lifeguards, these vital services can only continue if they are provided with the best facilities and equipment," Cr Holstein said.

"These upgrades bring council's overall investment in the redevelopment of Gosford City Surf Clubs to over $15 million.

"The improved facilities will not only lead to safer beaches, they'll also ensure the community has access to quality meeting rooms and function spaces, and provide volunteers who donate their time for everyone else's enjoyment with a safe work environment."

At its meeting on February 24, council resolved to liaise with community groups and surf club management on suggested activities for inclusion in the club's official opening festivities.

Cr Terri Latella said a visual and performing arts exhibition has already been suggested by the artistic community in the area.
