Dry start to year

Just 6.4mm of rain has fallen in the first third of January.

The average January rainfall is 102.8mm.

The figures were recorded by Mr Jim Morrison of Hillview St, Woy Woy.

They follow a year where rainfall was more than a third above average.

A total of 1622mm was recorded, 407.9mm or 33.5 per cent above the annual average of 1214.1mm.

"It is interesting that the 2007 rainfall above average amount is almost equal to the sum of previous two year's below average amounts," said Mr Morrison.

In 2006, the rainfall was 193.3mm below average and, in 2005, rainfall was 203.1mm down.
