Opening for hall renovations
The official opening of the newly-refurbished Pearl Beach Memorial Hall was scheduled to be held on last Saturday, January 12, after Peninsula News went to press.
The renovations were funded by a combination of Federal Government grant funds through the Regional Partnerships community assistance scheme and funds raised by the local community.
"The idea for a hall at Pearl Beach goes back as far as 1929 when the Pearl Beach Progress Association was formed," said association publicity officer Ms Lynne Lillico.
"Land on the current site was purchased by members of the community in 1943, and work eventually commenced on the new building in 1949, with completion and official opening being held on September 16, 1950."
Traditional bush band The Murrumbidgee Rattlers was booked as entertainment for the event, as was International and National "Town Crier" champion Mr Graham Keating.
