Regional championships at Peninsula pool

The NSW country regional swimming championships were held at Peninsula Leisure Centre last weekend, according to Gosford Council publicity officer Ms Marion Newall.

The event was the largest swim meet at championship level on the Central Coast this season.

It was the first NSW championship to be held on the Central Coast since 1996 when Gosford Olympic Pool hosted the country championships.

There were 2096 entries divided between 364 swimmers and 53 clubs.

Ms Newall said the championships were open to all NSW country swimmers, with between 800 and 1000 people attending the event.

Competing swimmers come from areas as diverse as Orange, Narooma and Coffs Harbour.

Woy Woy Swimming Club is hosting the event in conjunction with Central Coast Swimming.

The championships are a stepping-stone for swimmers to quality for the NSW Country Championships which will be held at the Sydney Aquatic Centre in February.
