Mingaletta elders praise Federal Minister
Two Mingaletta elders have praised the work of Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians Ms Linda Burney.
Federal Member for Robertson Dr Gordon Reid presented her with a certificate of appreciation on their behalf in Parliament House, Canberra.
The certificate recognises Ms Burney's "enduring support for the Mingaletta" in Umina Beach.
Mingaletta elder Aunty Di O'Brien said Minister Burney had been a great supporter.
"Linda has seen us come a long way, and we are so proud of her."
Minister Burney was well loved by the people of Mingaletta, said another Mingaletta elder, Aunty Robyn Reid.
"Linda is always there with a helping hand," she said.
"We really admire her as a strong First Nations' woman and politician.
"We wish her all the best in progressing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament and constitutionally recognising First Nations people," said Aunty Robyn, Dr Reid's grandmother.
Dr Reid said: "Mingaletta Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation provides support to First Nations people living on the Central Coast.
"The organisation offers a range of services, programs, and activities in health, welfare, education, and culture.
"It is also a centre for youth and family support, including people who are experiencing homelessness, people who have been displaced, or at risk of family breakdown.
"The organisation welcomes all people from across the Central Coast, and Australia."
"It was an honour to have been asked by the Elders at Mingaletta to present the Minister with a certificate of appreciation to recognise her support for Mingaletta since it has operated in Umina Beach", Dr Reid said.
