New waste education facility for Woy Woy tip

A new waste education facility at Woy Woy tip will play a role in promoting the Central Coast as an environment that advocates for the prevention of waste.

According to Central Coast Council's recently-adopted Waste Management Strategy, the education facility "is viewed as a critical Council service and the new strategy will expand the service through different channels and locations".

The strategy said that community consultation "demonstrated a high level of interest in diverting waste from landfill, including a willingness to pay more for processing of red bin waste and, among other things, to drop-off household items at a resale shop to be given another useful life".

Council intends to "stimulate and increase" local demand for recovered materials and, through recycling, potentially creating new local jobs.

One future action will be to examine "the viability of a resale or hire shop" but this is not likely to be located at Woy Woy tip.

Bulky waste collection services will also be reviewed.

A community recycling centre is under construction at Buttonderry and when open will accept paints, motor oils, cylinders, lead acid batteries, household batteries, fluorescent tubes and globes, which may no longer be accepted at Woy Woy tip.
