Unaware he had won

A regular buyer of lottery tickets has won first prize.

The Umina man made his regular trip to his local newsagency unaware he had the winning ticket.

"I was just over at the newsagency and the girl scanned the ticket and then everything went really quiet.

"After a few moments, she leaned over and said to me really quietly: 'It looks like you've won something'.

"So she went out the back to double check the numbers before coming out to tell me I'd won first prize," he said.

"I've probably been playing the lotteries all my life," the anonymous winner said.

"I've won a few hundred dollars here and there, but the most I've ever won is $500 so nothing like this," he said.

He said he was sure his children would be "happy to help me spend the win".

"We are going overseas next year, so we'll be putting this towards that trip too," he said.
