Ethics classes for all levels

Ethics classes were delivered to 120 students at Umina Beach Public School this year, making it the first year ethics has been available to all year levels from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Ethics classes provided an opportunity for students to discuss ethical issues in order to develop critical thinking skills and foster collaborative inquiry.

"Children sit in a circle as we take a journey through such topics as forgiveness, laziness, sharing, pride, courage and rules," said ethics teacher Ms Debra Pittam.

The ethics curriculum from Kindergarten to Year 2 focused on developing skills such as listening to others, taking turns to speak and giving reasons.

During Years 3 to 6, ethics classes have a strong focus of the development of critical thinking and discussion-based skills.

The school is currently seeking more volunteer Ethics teachers to join their team for 2018.
