Development priority will not convince new council
A brief comment on the article Chamber calls for high density residential zone, (Peninsula News, October 3):
Mr Matthew Wales' direction to the new Council that the priority has to be the building and development industry will not convince the new mayor or councillors.
He is very worried that the previous cranes-in-the-sky philosophy supported by the Gosford Council will be opposed by at least two councillors very capable of making informed decisions based on the triple bottom line, and supported by a community desperate to see transparency and accountability return to our local government after its absence for many years, even before the appointment of the Administrator.
The Peninsula Chamber of Commerce's credibility is on the slide with its prioritisation of building and development.
The Mangrove Mountain landfill site, that made headlines after the ABC's report and has been referred to the EPA, is not significant to the Chamber.
Under the new regime, the Chamber will need to extend its thinking or elect a new spokesperson capable of commenting on the triple bottom line.
The new mayor's appreciation of the environmental values of the local government area will lead to better planning and cost saving.
