Woy Woy takes out first bowls flag in 85 years

Woy Woy Men's Bowling Club has taken out the State Flag for the first time in the club's 85 year history.

The Woy Woy Number 7 Men's Pennant team travelled to Engadine and Taren Point on the first weekend in August and emerged victorious, winning a close fought final against Taree Railway Bowling Club by 60 to 56.

There were 16 teams in the playoffs and Woy Woy won all of their five games spread over three days.

Many supporters travelled down to the Sutherland Shire to share in the team's success.

Led by skippers Matt Lynch, John Donahue and James Cook, Woy Woy's 12 bowlers were very consistent over the three day event.

Team manager Ms Sandra Jones said she was especially proud to bring the State Flag back to the Woy Woy Bowling Club.

The other members of the victorious Woy Woy team were Jeff Meredith, Mark Fenton, Pat Croke, Edmond Burgess, Greg Elliott, Bob Irvine, Alan Jones, Ted Gentle, Dave Dixon and John Hughes.
