Reading Buddies program runs in libraries
The Reading Buddies program is running in local libraries again this year.
Buddies are volunteer helpers who read with children after school at Umina and Woy Woy libraries.
The aim of the Reading Buddies program is to provide one-on-one reading assistance to school-aged children who experience difficulty with reading.
The focus is on recreational reading or reading for pleasure.
The volunteers have a Working With Children Check and are given basic training on techniques to assist children with their reading.
A number of them are retired teachers and teacher's aides.
