Bowling club announces annual charity donation

Bowls days at Sporties at Woy Woy have raise about $17,000 for charity this year, the club has announced.

The most recent event, the monthly Charity Bowls Day for Central Coast Kids in Need was attended by members of Sporties at Woy Woy, Central Coast Kids in Need, Woy Woy Social Club and Member for Robertson, Ms Lucy Wicks.

The club presented a cheque for $14,000 to Central Coast Kids in Need and the Umina Blue Swimmers added another $1000 to the cause.

Central Coast Kids in Need raises money to assist families who have seriously ill children with prolonged illness.

Most of these children are cancer patients. Others are undergoing organ transplants or are premature babies with life threatening conditions.

The money is used to defray the costs of accommodation for the families in parent hostel rooms while the children are receiving their treatment.

The funds raised are also used to cover travel costs, equipment and pharmacy accounts.

Central Coast Kids in Need distributed $328,000 to 249 families in 2015-16 and $148,000 has been provided to 196 families so far in 2016-17.

Sporties at Woy Woy's next charity day will be held on Sunday, January 15.
