Candidate doesn't have a preference
Independent candidate for the seat of Robertson Mr Jake Cassar has announced that he would not be preferencing anyone in this year's election.
"Like many people out there, I find myself being fed up with both the major parties and I intend on giving voters the respect of making up their own minds as to what order they put the candidates in," said Mr Cassar
"I also feel that it's a sad state of affairs when the wealthy can financially back a candidate and essentially choose who wins the election.
"This is not democracy.
"In saying that, at least it has finally forced the major parties to be more focused on considering the needs of the Central Coast.
"I have been pushing the main candidates to make a solid commitment to our youth, our environment, to tourism and to those in our community that are struggling the most.
"While sport is a huge part of our culture, I find it extremely disappointing that our local soccer team gets more financial support than the estimated 1500 homeless men, women and young people forced to sleep on the cold streets each night.
"I realise that by not putting out How To Vote Cards with my suggested preferences on them, I could drastically reduce the amount of votes I receive, but until I feel the major parties get serious about the real issues facing our community, they won't be receiving any support from me.
"This is my protest," said Mr Cassar.
