Dad, Dave and Kevin
Former prime minister Kevin Rudd is very popular on TV and newspapers.
His attractive moon face and his nerdish, pixelated personality is one factor, but I believe it is his name, Rudd, that touches a deep well in the Australian psyche.
Arthur Hoey Davis wrote a book, On Our Selection, under the penname of Steele Rudd.
The characters of his book, Dad, Mum, Dave and Mabel, became part of our Australian heritage and culture.
A silent and talkie film production of On Our Selection were smash hits at the box office.
Director Ken Hall, using Bert Bailey as Dad, went on to film Grandad Rudd (1935), Dad and Dave Come to Town (1938) and Dad Rudd MP (1940).
Bert Bailey, one of our early great comic actors, brought Dad Rudd alive onto the screen and into our ethos.
