Regional award for touch football

The Peninsula Touch Association has been crowned the Affiliate of the Year Regional Winner at the NSW Touch Association Annual Awards held on July 18 and 19.

Association president Mr Rod Dillon said the award was a great result for all the dedicated staff and volunteers involved in the touch football competition.

"The hard work, particularly over the past two years by a small committee and dedicated band of volunteers has paid off and the association is thoroughly deserving of this award," Mr Dillon.

"This is a great result and all the committee members, volunteers, referees and members should be justifiably proud.

"Special thanks go to all the committee members over the past two years for their hard work and dedication."

Formally known as the Woy Woy Touch Association, the Peninsula Touch Association is based at McEvoy Oval in Umina and was established in 1979.

It holds regular Wednesday night summer and winter competitions for local touch football enthusiasts including a women's competition.

"The Peninsula is example of an affiliate striving for the future with good governance, practices and hard work," a spokesperson for the NSW Touch Association said.

"The committee has restructured the organisation to encompass the local community to provide better services for the membership.

"This has resulted in improvements in referee development and the running of the affiliate at park level."

Meanwhile Peninsula Touch will be playing a number of Call to Arms matches on July 29, to raise funds for the Cancer Council.
