Growing, going, gone

While the magpie has enjoyed a feast, he is now, like the kookaburras and lorikeets and noisy miners, homeless.

Finally the six trees in Flathead Rd have been cut down to make room for yet more villas.

And while I accept the inevitability of the loss of these magnificent natives, I wish the council would plant six more somewhere else to take their place, perhaps in the reserve off Hood St.

I am told by the arborist that trees are a renewable resource - so renew them!

The developer will only put in few suitable shrubs on the site.

And apart from those trees on the site, the tree on the footpath has been butchered to allow access for the enormous crane used.

It's all in the name of progress.
