Students help remove discarded oyster baskets

Students from Brisbane Waters Secondary College have helped Clean4shore remove 40 oyster baskets and four bags of small litter from the foreshore beside the Rip Bridge leading towards Rileys Bay.

Departing Lions Park in rainy conditions ,24 baskets were collected as well as two very full bags of small litter, mostly soft and hard plastics and plastic bottles, according to Clean4Shore co-ordinator Mr Graham Johnston.

"Our team then walked the Dog Track at Wagstaff, finding another 15 baskets and filling one more small bag of plastics.

"With rain falling, the team returned to Blackwall boat ramp with one more bag of plastics, a car tyre and a large piece of marine carpet.

"The western foreshore of Rileys Island was completed with 100 metres covered for one more small bag of litter."

A load of 200kg was taken to a muddy Woy Woy Tip.

Boat destroyed by fire

A boat was destroyed by fire at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River on Monday, March 16.

Water Police and Rural Fire Service crews attended the boat fire north of West Head and east of Patonga on the Hawkesbury River.

All people on the vessel were reported to have safely evacuated.

A life saver Helicopter went to the scene to provide medical assistance if needed.

The fire was been extinguished but the vessel was a total loss.
