Marine Rescue offers boat licence theory

Marine Rescue Brisbane Water is offering a certified Boat Licence Theory Course training seminar "to help boaters acquire the skills and knowledge they need to stay safer on our waterways".

The Marine Rescue Brisbane Water theory courses will be conducted by trainer and assessor Mr Ian Leafe, with coordinators Mr Bob Gilbody, Mr Paul Broad, Mr Chris Hartcher, Ms Jane Lewis and Mr Raymond Lewis.

Only a limited number of places will be available for the five-hour course, which starts at 8.30am on Sunday, February 15.

To gain a full boat licence, participants will also need to complete the Practical Handbook.

They will be required to take a minimum of three trips with an experienced skipper who has held a licence for a minimum of three consecutive years.

Marine Rescue Brisbane Water is an accredited training provider for TfNSW Maritime boat licence courses with members professionally trained to national standards.

"Courses are designed to teach you the ins and outs of safe boat handling and help build your confidence in local navigation, boating safety and the marine environment," said coordinator Mr Broad.

The cost of the course is $145 for young people between 12 and 15 years, and $165 for those 16 years and older.

Bookings are essential and 12 to 15-year-olds will require parental supervision.

Stakes prepared ready for tree planting

The Grow Urban Shade Trees community group has the stakes ready for our next round of tree planting in the Peninsula.

Members Ian and Lesley Harvey for have sanded and painted them ready for use.

"All we need are residents to contact us about having a tree in their verge that they can care for," said group member Ms Deb Sunartha.

"The GUST team will be planting in cooler weather."
