Shade tree group recommends firewheel trees

The Grow Urban Shade Trees community group is recommending firewheel trees as a feature tree ideal for a streetscape.

"We are lucky that the stenocarpus sinuatus likes our coastal environment and does well here," said group member Ms Deb Sunartha.

"Normally a northern rainforest tree, it has adapted well here.

"It is flowering now with its unique wheel-shaped bright orange flowers providing a nectar source for honey-eaters, parrots and rosellas.

"It is so impressive that it is noted on the Significant Tree list of Central Coast Council.

"You can see these in Memorial Ave, Ettalong.".
