Exchange student returns after a year in Brazil

The Rotary Club of Umina Beach outbound exchange student, Millie Hayes, has returned home after 12 months in Brazil.

Club publicity officer Mr Pat Lewis said Millie's days were filled with "experiencing a new family life, going to school, learning about Brazilian culture and sharing Australia's culture, exploring the Amazon, and making new international friends".

"We can't wait to hear all about it.

"She is now again enjoying home life and will be returning to Year 11 at school."

Chainsaw skills put to use

Chainsaw skills at the Patonga Volunteer Rural Bush Fire Brigade were put to good use after the recent storms.

The brigade's chainsaw operator was able to practise at Dark Corner where a large tree had been blown over.

There was no danger to property or power lines, but "a great training exercise".
