The carnival

"A carnival, what fun!" they cried, "Oh what a good idea,

Show we're good sports, promote our town, get cash tills ringing here."

But then those pesky greenies pounced, they're petty through and through,

"You can't destroy the dunes," they said, "Looks like we've got a blue."

They caused a fuss, they cruelled our pitch, they whinged and whined and moaned,

For months and months while we sat tight, they pleaded, droned and groaned,

And then at last we saw a chance to make things go our way,

We just agreed to all they said, to keep our foes at bay.

Those greenies are a woeful crew, they never laugh or smile,

They won't agree with what we want, keep grumbling all the while,

We found a map and drew some lines and told them she'd be right,

They said we had to write a plan; they always pick a fight.

But now we've really got them foxed, they don't know what to do,

Our carnival is going green, fair dinkum, we're true blue,

We've told the press and changed our tune, you watch them froth and foam,

You never know what they'll do next, they'll prob'ly write a poem.
