Petition launched for major upgrade of Ettalong Beach
Member for Robertson Dr Gordon Reid has joined with the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce president Mr Matthew Wales to launch a petition for funding from all levels of government for a major upgrade of Ettalong Beach.
Dr Reid said: "When I am door knocking or engaging with the community on the Peninsula, a matter that is constantly raised with me is Ettalong Beach foreshore.
"The community understands the importance of this recreation space and would like to see it upgraded, so more people can enjoy it.
"There are sections of the foreshore with uneven footpaths, overgrown vegetation, and accessibility issues.
"There are also issues with erosion and parking challenges.
"I am joining with our community and supporting this campaign.
"We want to secure support from all levels of government for a major upgrade to Ettalong Beach foreshore.
"I would encourage the community to help this project become a reality by supporting this petition and sharing with family and friends", Dr Reid said.
Mr Wales said: "Based on the huge success of the previous foreshore upgrade, the Chamber fully supports the continued upgrade to the south towards Ettalong Point so that this area can be made more accessible to the community.
"The Ettalong Beach foreshore is one of our best assets and attracts thousands of visitors each year.
"The continued upgrade works will enhance the foreshore, improve community access, and boost the local Ettalong Beach economy.
"As a first step, the Chamber fully supports the preparation of a Strategic Plan that encompasses improvement works that are sympathetic to the local environment and sets out a staged upgrade that can be costed for future funding."
