Council replies to toilet letter

Peninsula News published my letter on March 30 about the appalling state of public toilets in the Woy Woy area and elsewhere.

I also sent this letter to the Central Coast Council and now have a reply which states: "This toilet block is being considered in council's 10-year plan for a refurbishment or rebuild."

This is not a commitment to do anything other than consider the situation inside 10 years.

Council's reply also states: "Council does not provide soap or soap dispensers in public toilets due to a history of them being subject to vandalism, resulting in soap on the floors. There is a high risk of people slipping and injuring themselves."

Given the community instructions on hand washing to limit the coronavirus, I would suggest this is not seriously addressing the issue of public health.

There are ways to minimise this vandalism if the matter is considered important enough.
