Making the area accessible
We know from Mayor Smith that the Central Coast "is expected to grow by approximately 75,000 people by 2036, taking our population to over 415,000".
Apparently this means we will need to build an average of 2075 new homes per annum.
Statistics from 2016 state that one in five people have some form of disability and this will increase as our population ages.
This leads one to question just how many of these dwellings will make appropriate provision for disability access.
The Coast has the opportunity to become known as the most accessible local government area in the country.
An increase in accessible properties would have the benefit of increasing saleability and our tourism numbers.
There is much to be gained by keeping the need for inclusion and accessibility in mind when developing properties.
