Lions Club helps young people in wheelchairs
The Woy Woy Peninsula Lions Club has provided help for two young people in wheelchairs.
The club has provided Sophie Jordan, 5, from Ettalong, with a purpose-built wheelchair.
Sophie was born with multiple disabilities and her parents, Rebecca and Adam, were struggling using a borrowed chair.
"Everyday life was very challenging for them," said club secretary Ms Maureen Fenn.
"When Woy Woy Peninsula Lions heard about Sophie's situation, they decided to help.
"After getting the necessary advice, they funded the purchase of a new chair.
"When parents Rebecca and Adam brought Sophie to the club's Annual Tea Cosy Expo, Adam said that he didn't know how to thank the Lions.
"Everyday life, even a walk to the local shops, is so much more manageable now.
"Sophie's school had also noticed a big difference in their ability to work with her," said Ms Fenn.
The club has also helped 14-year-old Ben Kemsley, who is confined to a wheelchair, and his mum, Susanna, from Killcare Heights.
"Ben's mum was experiencing great difficulty lifting his chair into her car," said Ms Fenn.
The club fitted a car hoist into Susanna's car in April.
"Again Susanna expressed her gratitude to the Lions for making such a difference to her life," said Ms Fenn.
Lions is an international service organisation that aims to improve the lives and opportunities of people in their local communities.
