Outrigger regatta at Ettalong
Te Ika Nui, the outrigger canoe club at Ettalong, hosted a regatta on Saturday, March 3.
The day started at 7:30am with a Blessing of the Fleet and an introduction to the day of racing.
The Polynesian theme of Outriggers was continued through the day with music and a cultural dance performance by a group of young girls.
Te Ika Nui president Ms Yvonne Walters said: "A bit of rain on the day definitely didn't dampen any spirits.
"In fact, the weather conditions proved challenging and exciting.
"The water conditions were fantastic and the big swell offered challenging but fun conditions for everyone.
"With over 55 teams competing, the winners received great prizes and everyone commented on the fantastic food that our all day barbecue provided.
"Now Te Ika Nui is back to serious training leading up to the State titles in April," she said.
