Umina in race for cricket finals

Five teams from Umina District Cricket Club are still in the race to make the finals, according to publicity officer Mr Gary Blake.

Five of the club's eight teams are still in the race for the finals, which are only a month away.

Mr Blake said: "Our first grade suffered a close loss to Kincumber despite solid innings by Warwick Botfield (72) and Nathan Carmody-Smith (45), another strong bowling performance by skipper Mitchell Smith.

"Second grade captain Cameron Dunn guided his team home scoring 50 not out, after bowlers Scott King (5/33) and Mitchell Fiddock (4/15) had combined to dismiss Kincumber for 99 runs.

"Third grade lost to Kincumber despite a lively 62 not out by Geoff Byrnes, while fourth grade lost to Lisarow despite some strong batting by Ashley Stocker who scored 97, Paul Wright with 52 and John Fogarty 47 runs.

"In the Limited Overs Grades, our sixth grade (formerly A Grade) side, the Umina Devils, are clear leaders and should wrap up the Minor Premiership in the next week or two.

"This round saw Umina bowl Doyalson out for a mere 76, thanks mostly to Dan Fiddock with 3/3, then the Devils passed this score for the loss of two wickets with Stephen Gregg scoring 42 runs.

"Our seventh grade demolished Warnervale thanks to a maiden century by captain Alistair Lock who batted through the innings scoring 134 not out.

"Eighth grade had a rare loss (to Gosford) but are still well placed in third place.

"The ninth grade team had another easy win and have moved into second place.

"Once again our promising junior players starred with representative players James Smith (4/22), Jordan O'Donnell (3/11) and Andrew Glassock (2/15) doing the damage, before Andrew backed up to score 77 not out in a partnership with Mitchell Manson (31 not out) to get their team home for the loss of only one wicket.

"Andrew, James and Jordan all played important roles in the recent victories by the Central Coast Under-14 team in the Kookaburra Cup when they defeated Riverina in the final and in the State Challenge when they defeated Sydney's finest (Bankstown)."
