Learn pelican rescue techniques

Peninsula residents interested in helping injured pelicans will soon have the opportunity to learn rescue techniques.

Australian Seabird Rescue spokesperson Rae Fiechter of Woy Woy said a workshop would be held at The Entrance by Australian Seabird Rescue founder Lance Ferris.

The seabird rescue workshop will be held on Saturday, August 11, between 8.30am and 4pm at the Oaks Waterfront Resort, The Entrance.

Mr Fiechter said: "Recognising an injured bird is quite easy once you know what to look for.

"More often than not the bird can be released immediately after a hook or entangled line has been removed.

"It is a very rewarding experience to handle these magnificent birds."
