Zone introduced at Ettalong Beach for paddle craft only

A 300 metre "paddle craft only" zone has been introduced at Ettalong Beach.

"The zone restricts water uses to swimming and non-motorised crafts such as kayaks and stand-up paddleboards," said Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch.

Ms Tesch said the restrictions were introduced "in response to the community's ongoing safety concerns due to jet skis in this area".

"This is an important step to ensure that everyone can safely and peacefully enjoy our local beaches.

"This new 300m zone at Ettalong Beach will be clearly marked indicating the new Paddle Craft Only Zone.

"Penalties will apply for ignoring signage."

Council closes Kourung Ave boat ramp

The Kourung Ave boat ramp at Ettalong will close from Monday, December 2.

Mayor Cr Lawrie McKinna said the council's decision to close the boat ramp followed requests by residents, NSW Police, NSW Maritime, local Members of Parliament, and Council staff.

"NSW Maritime has now introduced a 300-metre zone that limits the foreshore beach area to paddlecraft only," he said.

"Council has been working closely with NSW Maritime to improve safety for beach and waterway users in this area.

"Closing the boat ramp complements NSW Maritime's recent changes in this area, making a safer environment for swimmers, families, and beachgoers at Ettalong foreshore.

He said complaints had included vehicle congestion, illegal parking, and potential hazards to the public from towing vehicles on the busy beach area.

The ramp closure made the beach more accessible and safer for paddlers and swimmers and their families who enjoy the Ettalong foreshore.

Other boat ramps on the Peninsula, include those at Blackwall, Lions Park in Woy Woy and at Correa Bay.
