Number of brigades called to Patonga

Pearl Beach Brigade has joined a number of brigades to a call-out in Patonga.

Along with Fire and Rescue NSW Station 340 Umina and volunteers from Patonga Volunteer Rural Bush Fire Brigade, The Bays Rural Fire Brigade and Empire Bay Rural Fire Brigade, the brigade was called to a fire alarm activation at The Boathouse, Patonga, on Monday, September 9.

The brigade reported it was a false alarm, "but our crews were ready to assist if it had been the real deal".

Pearl Beach brigade joins in Halekulani burn

Several members of Pearl Beach brigade have joined crews from across the district at the Halekulani hazard reduction burn near Budgewoi over the weekend of September 7 and 8.

It was part of the NSW Rural Fire Service's works to reduce fuel loads across the state in preparation for summer, according to brigade captain Mr Lindsay Boyd.

"We ended up with seven members making themselves available for the day, which meant not only a fully-crewed Pearl Beach 1, but we also had a couple of members to assist the Spencer Rural Fire Brigade on their two trucks, giving us a hands-on opportunity to build inter-brigade connections.

"The operation went beautifully according to plan and was skilfully executed, resulting in both the protection of neighbouring communities and lessening the fuel load for the benefit of the natural environment.

"It was great to see so many active, engaged, capable fire-fighters getting out there preparing for summer, and to have a chance to work alongside other brigades and crew from Lake Munmorah, Warnervale, Wyee, Spencer, Mannering Park, Wyee Point, Warnervale, Erina, Lake Munmorah, Wadalba, Gwandalan-Summerland Point and Cameron Park.

"With the amount of rainfall that we have had over the last couple of years, there has been a lot of growth that has increased the fuel load, so it is really great to be able to get the hazard reduction work done."
