Marine Rescue commander re-elected unopposed

Marine Rescue Central Coast has re-elected Mr Ian Morrow unopposed as its unit commander for another two years.

Deputy unit commander Mr Andrew McKellar was also returned for a second two-year term unopposed, with Mr Ian Radford sharing responsibilities as deputy unit commander (administration).

Mr Morrow praised the team which operated "behind the scenes".

"As my first term comes to an end, I would ask you to indulge me as I think back over that time and acknowledge the hard work of all the back room people who put in an extraordinary amount of their own time, mostly over and above their normal duties.

"I am forever grateful for these people and the way they go about their duties, mostly without any instructions from anyone because they have a professional approach and instinctively know what is required.

"These people are the lubricant that keeps the operation of the unit seamless and minimises disruption," said Mr Morrow.

Mr Ian Leafe stepped down from the admin role, which was taken over by Mr Chris Hartcher, with Ms Lisa Pollard taking on membership.

Treasurer Ms Shea Wicks, IT officer Mr Pete Alderton and grants officer Mr Paul Brierley retained their positions on the executive committee, while Mr Bob Gilbody has stepped up to the task of training officer.

New pavilion to be opened at anniversary picnic

The Pearl Beach Arboretum will hold its anniversary picnic at 11:30am on Sunday, August 18.

The day will include the opening of the Arboretum's new verandah-pavilion by Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch at 12.30pm.

"Every year in August we celebrate the founding of the Crommelin Native Arboretum at Pearl Beach in 1976," said arboretum secretary Ms Mary Knaggs.

Tea, coffee and cake will be provided, along with live music by Phil and Lynette Rich.

"The Pearl Beach Arboretum has been created and managed entirely by community volunteers on land owned by Central Coast Council.

"The Arboretum has had many generous donations and grants over the years from private individuals and entities and from government agencies.

"These donations have helped us create our new verandah-pavilion which can be used for environmental education and community events."

She said all were welcome to the picnic, and suggested those attending bring their

own chairs and tables, as well as a picnic lunch.

She also asked that dogs be left at home.

"No dogs are allowed in the Arboretum due to our wildlife.

"The best parking is in Opal Close."
