Marine Rescue Central Coast splits for new Terrigal unit

Marine Rescue Central Coast is to be split in two, with the announcement that Marine Rescue Terrigal will be reinstated as stand-alone unit.

Inspector Steve Raymond of Marine Rescue NSW Hunter Central Coast said the Terrigal unit amalgamated with the neighbouring Central Coast unit in 2017.

He said that over time it became evident of the need for Terrigal to return to a unit in its own right.

"With Terrigal having favourable access to the ocean, we felt it was important for boaters in the region that the unit was reinstated because of its offshore capability.

"The Terrigal base has the most southern entry point to the ocean on the Central Coast and provides important offshore coverage between the Norah Head and Broken Bay units.

"With the Central Coast unit positioned on enclosed waterways, the endorsement for the re-establishment of the Terrigal unit provides boaters in the area with reassurance that in the event they need assistance, Marine Rescue NSW has multiple units and assets that can respond.

"The Terrigal unit has 40 volunteer members and a 10-metre Naiad rescue vessel with offshore capability up to 30 nautical miles ensuring swift deployment for rescue missions," he said.

A different fire truck in Pearl Beach

Residents of Pearl Beach may have noticed a different Rural Fire Service tanker in the village last week.

The Pearl Beach brigade's "main appliance" Pearl Beach 1 was with the district maintenance team having a mobile data terminal installed.

While it was away, the brigade had a loan of the Central Coast HQ 2 truck

The new terminal will allow crews to access information on their way to an incident, and to communicate with and track other crews across the state.

The hope is that better information will mean better decisions and better outcomes for all.
