Dementia cafe provides social get together

Patrons of the Dementia Cafe run by the Rotary Club of Brisbane Water were served tea and coffer and treats on Monday, June 26.

They were entertained with piano music and did some gentle exercises.

The dementia cafe aims to be a safe and welcoming social get-together where people living with dementia and their carers can continue to be connected and engaged.

Three Rotarians to take part in Variety Bash

Three members of the Rotary Club of Umina are taking part in the Variety Bash from August 6 to 16 to raise money for disadvantaged children.

They are president Mr Wayne Dowdle, Mr Ian Johnson and Mr Mel Dodds, driving car number 911.

"They heard that young disabled, sick and disadvantaged kids are desperately in need of funds and they could help via the Variety Club," said club youth director Mr Rob Meyer.

"Combining adventure with fund-raising, they found that a Variety Bash could fulfil their desires.

"It means travelling in a 38-year-old Toyota dual cab through the centre of Australia, mainly on dirt roads from Bathurst to Batavia Coast, Geraldton WA - 5500 kms in 10 days.

"The intention is to raise funds for the kids, while paying all their own expenses, including fuel, accommodation and flights home.

"They are looking to raise $10,000."

Donations of more than $7700 have already been made.

"Every little bit helps saving the kids."
