Youth service holds program for parents
A Resourceful Adolescent Program for Parents will be held on March 10 at Evolution Youth Service, located at 2 Ross St, Woy Woy.
The program has been developed for parents of teenage and pre-teenage children and is designed to equip parents with the knowledge and tools to assist their children's progress through their teenage years safely and happily.
The Resourceful Adolescent Program for Parents will address ways parents can teach their children to be independent while still feeling the security of the home environment.
It also aims to equip parents with the knowledge that helping their children become their own person and feel good about themselves is an important part of this process.
It also aims to help parents teaching them how to manage stress levels and prevent and manage conflict with teenage children.
The free workshop will be presented by the Reconnecting Adolescents and Parents Team.
The Resourceful Adolescent Program for Parents will be delivered by a family counsellor from Uniting, a voluntary service that aims to strengthen family relationships by offering practical and personal support to young people and their families, when and where they need it.
Coast Community Connections' acting chief executive officer Ms Di Spragg said: "This workshop follows a successful session undertaken in September last year.
She said: "Our Evolution Youth Services team work with teens and pre-teens on a regular basis and area aware that being a parent is very rewarding but it can also be quite challenging.
"The teenage years can be a tumultuous time for everyone involved and we want to provide local parents with the tools required to ensure the transition from being a child to becoming an adult is a positive one."
The Resourceful Adolescent Program for Parents will be held on Thursday, March 10, from 9:30am to 2:30pm at Evolution Youth Service, 2 Ross St, Woy Woy.
Spaces are strictly limited. To register, phone 4342 3684.
