Entertainers booked for festival

Entertainment for this year's Brisbane Water Oyster Festival has been booked, according to event organiser Ms Debra Wales.

"The day will kick off with Wayne Cornell and the Allstar Big Band on the main stage," Ms Wales said.

"Wayne Cornell, formerly lead singer of the Delltones and recent recipient of the 2010 Mo Award, will perform on stage from 9.30am.

"The fabulous Kamis, six family members with big voices and dance movements, will wow the crowds from 1pm until the close of day.

"The famous How Many Oysters Can You Eat in 30 Seconds competition is on again with the trophy up for grabs and a record to break of 27 oysters."

Ms Wales said this year's festival on November 14 would celebrate its 10th anniversary and hoped of raising enough money for a Colposcope machine for Gosford Hospital.

She said the festival would this year host its inaugural Celebrity Oyster Eating Competition.

"Australian author and former Home and Away star Judy Nunn will, along with her actor and author husband, Bruce Venables, enter the fray to win the much coveted Oyster trophy," Ms Wales said.

"We are lining up 10 celebrities for the Celebrity Oyster Eating Competition and we will certainly make a good effort to raise the $25,000 for a state-of-the-art machine that can detect early cervical cancer in women."

Acting director of obstetrics and gynaecology at Central Coast Health Dr Gavin Kemball said the colposcope would benefit the community in a number of ways.

"The most important feature of this updated equipment is that it will enable us to see cervical abnormalities much more clearly, which will allow for a quicker and more effective diagnosis," Dr Kemball said.

"Plus with the better imaging that comes with this equipment, some procedures will be able to be undertaken using a local anaesthetic resulting in less anxiety and better prognosis for the patient."
