Storytime secures support

The Start Reading Project's annual Storytime in the Park has secured enough support this year to ensure it will be best one yet.

"The Start Reading Project, now in its fourth year of operation, organises Storytime in the Park which is totally funded and staffed by the local community and businesses," said Beachside Family Centre facilitator Ms Debbie Notara.

"Around 15 community members will be reading stories and setting up play activities for this year's event.

"Peninsula Family Day Care and Uniting Care Burnside are also providing crafts on the day," Start Reading Project member Ms Nicole Mottlee said the local community was consistently showing support for the program.

"Families can come down with a rug and move around the various reading stations where different stories will be performed.

"Some stories will be sung and some have movements for the children to do.

"There is an Indigenous, Spanish and even a Japanese reading station!

"Families can then stay and have a picnic lunch."

Ms Mottlee also said local businesses were sponsoring the event and supplying prizes and refreshments.

Storytime in the Park will be run on Tuesday, August 24, at Umina Oval from 10am to 12.30pm.
