Harvest donated to Mary Macs

The Umina Uniting Church parish community has donated several cartons of food that were used as a display in its Harvest Thanksgiving service to Mary Macs Place in Woy Woy.

The special service was led by Rev Peter Swain on March 7, according to publicity officer Ms Annette Strong.

"Many folk will have remembered harvest festivals which are a more common service in rural/agricultural areas," Ms Strong said.

"This is the first time this type of service has been celebrated in our local churches for many years.

"A lot of food was donated, some perishable, and was displayed on bales of straw and included a milk can and other vintage farm tools which all added to the pleasing effect.

"The following day, the food was donated to Mary Mac's place kitchen at Woy Woy Catholic Church for use and distribution to the needy."

Ms Strong said the parish community also enjoyed a pleasant and relaxing Saturday afternoon high tea at the Umina Uniting Church complex on March 13.

"Organised by members of the Umina congregation, the afternoon featured a concert that included everyone joining in singing some of the old well known popular songs, skits and other items before moving into the formally decorated Rose Room activity hall where there were silver teapots, white table clothes and waitresses in frilly white aprons," Ms Strong said.

Funds raised went to the Religious Education Ministry in our two local high schools.

"A total amount of $1100 was raised."

Ms Strong encouraged all community members to mark down Saturday, May 8, in their diaries for the next Market Day at Umina Uniting Church starting from 8am with proceeds going towards air conditioning for the church's activity hall.
