Here's how!
Klaas Woldring asks the question (Peninsula News, March 12): How did we end up with two terrible political parties?
May I offer a brief synopsis?
The landed gentry started the first political party to thwart the power of kings.
Much latter, businessmen became the most powerful force and they formed rival parties, Liberal and conservative, freetrade and protection.
The workers, sick of being slaves, formed trade unions and eventually Labour parties, to win some rights and freedom.
So, to the present time, the Social Democrats and the Conservatives have welded to the common interest, ie, their respective Party and world Capitalism.
They throw a few bones or sweets to the people now and then, but their main aim is to serve their corporate masters.
All people can do about this is to fight rearguard actions to try and stop the worst, and save what is worthwhile.
