Grant for indigenous education
Ettalong Beach Public School will receive more than $130,000 to help implement a program designed to help bridge the gap in learning between indigenous and non indigenous students.
The State Government initiative Schools in Partnership will also encourage and develop greater engagement of families in the life of the school.
School principal Mr Colin Wallis said it was rewarding to see the school's funding application approved.
"Next year the school will receive a grant of just over $130,000 to help implement the program," Mr Wallis said.
These funds will be used to employ a literacy-numeracy teacher to assist students and to up-skill other teachers.
An aboriginal community liaison officer will be employed, and the school will develop a program of personalised learning plans.
"It is a great opportunity for our school and recognition at last of the outstanding results we are already achieving in the area of aboriginal education.
"It will complement and enhance our Stronger Smarter Institute involvement and have long lasting benefits for all students."
